– Job Description

Position:
Head of Department – Laboratory

Reports To:

Plant Head

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all foundry laboratory activities for SG casting.
Supervise chemical, metallurgical, and sand testing.
Ensure accurate spectrometer and metallurgical microscope analysis.
Implement and maintain lab SOPs, testing schedules, and control plans.
Coordinate with Production, Melting, and Quality departments.
Ensure compliance with safety, statutory, and environmental norms.
Analyze defects, perform root cause analysis, and take corrective/preventive actions.
Train and develop lab chemists, metallurgists, and technicians.
Maintain daily/monthly lab records, production correlation, and KPI reporting.

Quality & Safety

Ensure chemical composition and microstructure meet customer and internal standards.
Enforce safety practices (PPE, chemical handling, lab safety procedures).
Conduct safety audits, training, and toolbox talks.

Cost & Efficiency

Control lab consumables, chemicals, and equipment usage costs.
Ensure minimal rework due to lab errors.
Drive continuous improvement, lean initiatives, and process optimization.

Required Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of metallurgy, chemical composition, and sand testing.
Defect analysis and root cause investigation.
Leadership and team management.
Data analysis, reporting, and documentation skills.

Qualification & Experience

B.E. /

B.Tech / M.Tech in Metallurgy or related field.
8–15 years experience in foundry lab operations.
Hands-on experience with spectrometer, microscope, and lab equipment.
Automotive foundry experience preferred.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: 30,000 to 50,000 per month (Negotiable, based on experience and skill)
