Role

Purpose:

Act as the business-facing analyst supporting Data Owners and Stewards, focusing on business requirements, governance processes, and stakeholder engagement.
Scope of Role
Serves as a liaison between Data Governance, Business Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Technical Data Custodians.
Ensures that governance frameworks (CDEs, DQ, glossary, lineage, issue management) are understood, adopted, and operationalized.
Provides analysis, facilitation, and process support to governance steering committees and working groups.
Focuses on business alignment, policy adherence, and continuous improvement of governance practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Governance Execution
Facilitate identification, definition, and approval of Critical Data Elements (CDEs) across domains.
Coordinate updates to the business glossary, ensuring consistent, high quality business definitions.
Support DQ lifecycle processes including issue triage, prioritization, rootcause analysis, and remediation planning.
Maintain business-facing lineage narratives and ensure alignment with technical lineage.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance Forums
Support governance working groups, and steering committees.
Prepare materials, agendas, status updates, and decisions for governance forums.
Track and follow up on governance action items, decisions, and escalations.
Act as a point of contact and trusted advisor to Data Owners and Data Stewards.
Process, Operating Model & Documentation
Develop and update governance SOPs, RACIs, playbooks, and process documentation.
Apply governance standards and policies consistently across business units.
Support business readiness and change management for governance initiatives.
Conduct business process analysis to understand upstream/downstream impacts on data.
Adoption & Enablement
Drive adoption of governance tools, workflows, and processes.
Provide training, demos, and onboarding for Data Owners, Data Stewards, and business SMEs.
Monitor compliance metrics and support maturity uplift efforts.
Identify gaps in adoption and propose enhancements to improve operational effectiveness.

Required Skills &

Qualifications:

Business & Governance Skills
Strong understanding of data governance concepts: business glossary, CDEs, data quality, lineage, ownership/stewardship models.
Experience engaging business stakeholders and facilitating cross functional discussions.
Ability to translate business processes and requirements into structured governance outputs.
Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
Analytical Skills
Ability to conduct rootcause analysis for data issues.
Comfortable analyzing data patterns, quality issues, and business processes.
Ability to understand how data flows across business processes and systems.
Technical Awareness (Nice to Have)
Familiarity with data governance tools (Dataplex, Google Data Catalog, etc.).
Basic knowledge of cloud data platforms and data lifecycle concepts.
Ability to read and interpret metadata and lineage diagrams.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Management, Data Analytics, or related fields.
4–10 years experience in data governance, business analysis, risk/data management, or operations.
Certifications in Data Governance (e.g., DAMA) desirable.
