Call for the Position of Associate Professor (IR)
Position Summary:
The Associate Professor - International Relations will contribute to the academic and research activities of Subhas Chandra Bose (SCB) Chair in International Relations (SCB). This position will involve a strong research and leadership focus along with minor teaching load and an expectation to aid the Chair in realizing its strategic focus. The Associate Professor will be a vital part of the academic community, working towards enhancing the university's profile in International Relations through innovative teaching and research.
About the Chair:
The Subhas Chandra Bose (SCB) Chair in International Relations was established in 2022 to champion high-impact interdisciplinary research in International Relations with a focus on India's foreign and security policies, with a particular focus on its continental and maritime periphery broadly construed. By shaping India's point of view on emerging global priorities, the Chair intends to build a foundation for the nation's new role drawing effectively on our civilisational heritage, historical experiences, and emerging capabilities.
Since December 2025, Amb. Ashok Kantha is the Distinguished Chair Professor.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Assist the Distinguished Chair Professor in leading the activities of the Chair
Undertake continuous research activity, reflected in regular publications in high-impact journals
Contribute to the Chair's overall research plan through working papers and briefs
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses at the university
Provide academic guidance/supervision to students
Organise and participate in seminars, conferences, and workshops
Collaborate with internal and external faculty to enhance research output
Preferred candidate:
PhD in International Relations or in an allied discipline
Min. 4-6 years of research experience in an academic/policy environment
Strong record of teaching and publication
Demonstrated ability to lead teams in research environment
Research expertise on China, India's neighbourhood, Indian Ocean Region, maritime studies, and related themes
A public-facing scholarship presence is desirable but not requisite
Language competence is preferred
