Position: Environmental Educator

Stanley Park Ecology is hiring an Environmental Educator to deliver our ecology-themed education programs.
We are seeking applicants with experience and interest in showcasing ecological concepts through fun and engaging experiences.
This is an in-person position, operating out of our office in Stanley Park.
Role Description
The Mission of Stanley Park Ecology Society is education, conservation, and research rooted in Stanley Park. We celebrate diversity and are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace that reflects and expands the community that we serve.
Reporting to the Education Manager, the Environmental Educator participates in the delivery of programs for school groups, kid camps, and the visiting public. Stanley Park Ecology educational programs cover forest, wetland and intertidal ecosystems and are offered to schools between September and June and to day camp children during summer and spring break. As well, Stanley Park Ecology runs Vancouver's only ecology centre called the Nature House on Lost Lagoon that is visited by over 10,000 people / year and offers a host of public programs through walks, talks and webinars.
The role of Environmental Educator is a dynamic position centered around in-person delivery of Stanley Park Ecology education programming.
Role Responsibilities
Work closely with the School Programs Coordinator and the Public Education Programs Coordinator to offer high-quality environmental education experiences.
Deliver Stanley Park Ecology educational programming
School fields trips for students grades K-12
Day camp programming
Public tours or workshops for visitors to the park. Support Nature House programming, when needed.
Support Stanley Park Ecology special events and tabling opportunities at community events.
Assist in annual reviews and reporting for programs.
Assist in the development of new program elements and materials.
Assist in interdepartmental activities, as required by the Education Manager.
Work weekends, and/or evenings, as scheduled.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
A degree or diploma in biology, environmental studies or related field
Strong knowledge of BC ecology
Demonstrated experience leading activities for school aged children and youth.
Demonstrated experience successfully delivering outdoor programming or activities.
A relevant combination of the above education and experience.
Skills And Abilities
Proactive, positive and professional communicator, modelling respectful dialog with team members and program participants
Self-motivated, accountable, organized and flexible
Ability to work independently and as a team with a collaborative work style
Ability and/or interest in showcasing ecological concepts through fun and engaging experiences
Willingness and ability to work indoors or outdoors, rain or shine
Proficiency with software tools such as Microsoft 365
Licenses and Certifications
Must complete a Criminal Record Check for working with youth and vulnerable adults
First Aid certification with CPR is required (support provided)
BC class 5 driver's license an asset

Compensation And Benefits
Hourly Rate: $21.00 - 24.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
10 days paid vacation (year one)
