Full-time Paraprofessional/Educational Aide (Portage County)

Capstone Academy is an Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio (ESCNEO) program located in a residential facility in Portage County, serving PK-12 students with profound-intensive intellectual and physical disabilities as well as medically complex conditions.

Capstone Academy is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time Paraprofessional position for the  school year. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be willing to get an aide's license through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and pass a paraprofessional test after employment.

Main duties may include:

* Perform a variety of school wide activities that support instructional programming.

* Assist students with personal care (e.g., toileting).

* Perform clerical work related to classroom activities. Maintain records as directed.

* Help keep program areas orderly (e.g., cleans spills, sanitize equipment).

* Assist in the supervision of students throughout the day.

* Participate in all required training deemed appropriate for the position.

* Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.

* Ability to work respectfully with a culturally diverse population of students.

* Risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and/or communicable diseases.

* Ability to balance, bend, crouch, kneel, reach, and stand.

* Ability to lift, carry, and move work-related supplies and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.

* Perform other specific job-related duties as directed.

Qualifications:

* Secure and maintain appropriate Ohio Department of Education and Workforce license.

* Clear FBI and BCI Background checks

* Maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.

* Participate (and pass where applicable) in all required trainings, including but not limited to:
First Aid, CPR, Crisis Intervention, Blood Borne Pathogens, and others deemed appropriate for the position.

* Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.

* Embody high ethical standards and integrity. Accept responsibility for decisions and conduct.

* Adhere to Educational Service Center (ESC) Governing Board policies/administrative guidelines/staff handbook, policies of assigned worksite, and to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.

* Promote the proper use, care, and security of Educational Service Center (ESC) property. Report misconduct, vandalism, equipment malfunctions and other concerns.

* Exhibit consistent, impartial and resourceful critical-thinking skills.

* Proficient in office protocols, data entry, spelling, proofreading, and the correct use of grammar.

* Demonstrate dependability/flexibility and reacts productively to interruptions/emerging priorities.

* Give thorough attention to detail and effective customer service.

* Maintain an acceptable attendance record.

* Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities as required by law.

* Cross train with other staff, participates in meetings, and attend professional development in-services.

* Maintain confidentiality of information relating to students.

* Perform other specific job-related duties as required.

Working Conditions:

* Risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids and/or communicable diseases.

* Risk of exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and odors. Exposure to wet or slippery surfaces.

* Balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching and standing.

* Lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies and/or equipment.

* Must have ability to occasionally move up to 50 lbs.

* Operate and/or ride in a vehicle.

* Work at various heights, in confined spaces and/or in variable/diminished lighting.
