Company Description
The Aero Transportation Products (ATP) organization is part of the Wabtec Corporation. Established in 1979 and purchased by Wabtec in 2017, ATP has supported the Agriculture and Industrial rail industry for 45 years. ATP designs and builds products that feed and house people throughout North America and is developing products for Europe and beyond.

Who will you be working with?

This position is part of ATP, with sites located in Independence, MO and McPherson, KS. The Independence site is an underground industrial complex customized for fiberglass production, while McPherson is a metal fabrication and weld shop in the Heartland. The ATP team is a diverse group from varying backgrounds, united by a positive work culture. Team members primarily support the production of steel and aluminum hatch covers and gates for Wabtec’s Freight Components division.

This role is specific to the Independence, MO location.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Independence-based team, you will be responsible for the general assembly of products in accordance with product specifications, engineering drawings, and quality procedures. You will be cross-trained in a variety of tasks, including building products using fiberglass, resins, and hard structural materials. Training will include the use of hand and pneumatic tools. You will report directly to the Production Supervisor or Manufacturing Supervisor, as well as the Plant Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general assembly of products in accordance with product specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Perform required inspections of product in accordance with Quality Procedures.
  • Build hatch cover structures using fiberglass, resins, and hard structural materials.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, including pneumatic tools.
  • Interpret work instructions.
  • Work safely, wear appropriate PPE, and maintain a clean work area.
  • Work within a group and execute duties within a team structure.
  • Perform additional duties as deemed necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general assembly of products in accordance with product specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Perform required inspections of products in accordance with Quality Procedures.
  • Record applicable inspection/test results.
  • Interpret inspection/test results to reflect job function requirements as necessary.
  • Work safely and maintain a clean work area.
  • Perform additional duties as deemed necessary.
  • Must be able to arrive on time and work a full shift.
  • Must be able to work a full work week.
Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to interpret and apply standards
  • Ability to stand for approximately 8 hours per day
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 lbs
  • Ability to work in a closed environment, specifically within a cave system
  • Ability to work on uneven surfaces

Education/

Experience:

  • Prior assembly in a manufacturing facility preferred but not required
  • Fiberglass experience preferred but not required

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 lbs
  • Working Environment/Environmental Hazards:
    • Enclosed cave environment
    • Climate controlled
    • Work with fiberglass, resins, and other chemicals

The typical working hours for this role are 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Overtime hours may be available or required according to business needs and applicable laws.

The hourly rate for this role is in the range of $18.00 - $25.00 per hour.
