The Perinatal Licensed Counselor responds to pregnant patients experiencing medical, emotional, or social crises in the setting of a high‑risk diagnosis. The Perinatal Counselor will be familiar with addressing social determinants of health. Other services may include providing crisis intervention, referrals to community agencies, and leading support groups.
What you will do in this role:- Adheres to hospital’s behavioral competencies and department and organizational goals.
- Performs assessments for high risk patients identified as needing perinatal care planning.
- Refers patients to appropriate community resources.
- Provides crisis intervention and emotional support to patients and families.
- Participates in patient/family physician conferences.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team discussion to develop a patient-specific care‑plan that meets the patient’s individual needs.
- Develops and maintains working relationships with community agencies.
- Documents in patient record per corporate and hospital policy.
- Participates in department and hospital performance improvement activities.
- Reports any cases of suspected or confirmed neglect or abuse.
- Facilitates counseling as appropriate.
- Makes counseling services available to Antepartum inpatients.
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Kansas.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work.
- Discharge planning experience.
- One year(s) experience in the perinatal/OB clinical setting preferred.
- High level interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work with multiple disciplines.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to adjust with changing demands.
- Notary Public must be obtained within 18 months of employment start date.
