The Perinatal Licensed Counselor responds to pregnant patients experiencing medical, emotional, or social crises in the setting of a high‑risk diagnosis. The Perinatal Counselor will be familiar with addressing social determinants of health. Other services may include providing crisis intervention, referrals to community agencies, and leading support groups.

• Adheres to hospital’s behavioral competencies and department and organizational goals.
• Performs assessments for high risk patients identified as needing perinatal care planning.
• Refers patients to appropriate community resources.
• Provides crisis intervention and emotional support to patients and families.
• Participates in patient/family physician conferences.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team discussion to develop a patient-specific care‑plan that meets the patient’s individual needs.
• Develops and maintains working relationships with community agencies.
• Documents in patient record per corporate and hospital policy.
• Participates in department and hospital performance improvement activities.
• Reports any cases of suspected or confirmed neglect or abuse.
• Facilitates counseling as appropriate.
• Makes counseling services available to Antepartum inpatients.

• Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Kansas.
• Master’s Degree in Social Work.
• Discharge planning experience.
• One year(s) experience in the perinatal/OB clinical setting preferred.
• High level interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work with multiple disciplines.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to adjust with changing demands.
• Notary Public must be obtained within 18 months of employment start date.
