Under direction, on an assigned shift, maintains and operates a water plant and assists in the care and maintenance of plant equipment.

• Performs minor and standard laboratory tests as required
• Monitors and maintains levels of chemicals
• Flushes plant system
• Inspects and performs minor repairs and maintenance to plant equipment and related facilities
• Prepares various reports
• Maintains plant buildings and grounds
• Performs additional duties as assigned

• Some knowledge of the methods, equipment, materials, and terminology used in the operation and care of plant equipment
• Ability to assist in the repair and overhaul of plant equipment
• Ability to read gauges and recording devices
• Ability to keep routine records
• Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools
• Ability to follow written and oral directions
• Knowledge of basic principles of chemistry
• Ability to make arithmetic calculations

• Completion of high school or GED required; associates degree preferred
• One year of experience in operation and maintenance of a water plant or system required

• A current Kansas driver's license
• Certification as a Kansas Class I or II Water Treatment Operator
• Compliance with state mandated continuing education requirements
• Must be available to work nights, in shifts, overtime, and weekends

• Intense physical effort required. Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time.

• Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.
