The Māori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT) Manager provides strategic and operational leadership to advance positive educational, training, and employment outcomes for Māori and Pacific learners through culturally grounded vocational pathways. This role ensures high‑quality, learner‑centred delivery aligned with Government priorities and the Māori and Pasifika Trades Training Consortium’s strategic direction.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $108,400 and $135,400 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

The Māori and Pasifika Trades Training Manager is based within the Tiriti Partnerships and Māori Success Directorate, reporting to the Pouārahi Māori | Executive Director Tiriti Partnerships and Māori Success, and will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic and operational leadership of the MPTT team to deliver culturally responsive, learner‑focused support
  • Building and sustaining strong relationships with iwi, hapū, Pacific communities, employers, industry, and government partners
  • Leading the coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of MPTT programme delivery and learner outcomes
  • Managing budgets, resources, reporting, and compliance requirements in line with funding agreements and organisational policies
  • Providing cultural leadership that strengthens tikanga Māori and Pacific practices across programme delivery and organisational events

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Demonstrated leadership and people management experience (typically 5+ years) within education, vocational training, workforce development, or a closely related sector
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent professional, lived, or community experience that enables credible leadership in this space
  • Proven ability to translate organisational strategy into clear direction, team plans, and individual performance expectations
  • Experience managing operational delivery, including financial oversight, resource planning, monitoring performance, and reporting against agreed outcomes
  • Strong relationship‑building capability and the ability to work effectively with iwi, hapū, Pacific communities, employers, government agencies, and internal stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of kaupapa Māori, tikanga Māori, and Pacific cultural frameworks, with the ability to embed these meaningfully into practice
  • A deep commitment to equity, diversity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and improving outcomes for Māori and Pacific learners

As an inclusive and supportive employer, we value diversity and encourage anyone interested to apply — even if you don’t tick every box.

We know people from underrepresented groups, and women in particular, may not apply unless they meet 100% of the criteria. We’re not looking for perfection; we’re looking for potential.

We welcome the real you in your application. Skills are gained through many areas of life — including whānau roles, community leadership, or mahi aroha (volunteering). If you can demonstrate the skills outlined above through lived or community experience, we encourage you to apply and share your story with us in your Cover Letter.
