POSITION SUMMARY
SJHH is seeking a highly skilled, analytical, and detail-oriented Senior Business Analyst with strong expertise in Epic Cogito reporting, business intelligence, SQL, and data visualization. This role is responsible for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of enterprise reporting solutions and dashboards that support clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders across the organization.
The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians, operational leaders, and technical partners to translate business needs into accurate, reliable, and actionable analytics. This role blends deep business analysis capability with hands‑on BI development and requires a proactive, collaborative professional committed to data quality, governance, and continuous improvement in a healthcare environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting & Analytics Development- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of reports, dashboards, and data extracts using Epic Cogito tools (Clarity, Caboodle, Reporting Workbench, Radar, Slicer Dicer), SQL, and analytics platforms such as Power BI / Microsoft Fabric.
- Write, optimize, validate, and troubleshoot SQL queries aligned with clinical, operational, and financial reporting requirements.
- Test BI deliverables in development and production environments to ensure accuracy, performance, and reliability.
- Maintain and enhance existing BI content, ensuring alignment with evolving user needs, data governance standards, and organizational priorities.
- Facilitate requirements‑gathering sessions with clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional and technical specifications.
- Provide expert data interpretation, analytical insight, and documentation to support evidence‑based decision‑making.
- Produce internal and external analytics deliverables, status updates, and action plans.
- Provide guidance, education, and support to end users on dashboards, reports, and self‑service analytics tools.
- Act as a subject matter resource for Epic reporting, analytics best practices, and data interpretation.
- Support evaluation, testing, and adoption of new Epic reporting features, upgrades, and BI capabilities.
- Recommend and support improvements to analytics processes, workflows, and reporting standards.
- Contribute to data quality, privacy, and governance initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement efforts to ensure BI solutions align with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and clinical best practices.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Epic & Analytics Certifications (Required or Completed Within Probation).
- Epic Cogito certifications (or active proficiency tracks), including:
- Reporting Workbench (RWB)
- Radar dashboards and/or Slicer Dicer
- Clarity SQL and/or Caboodle data warehouse
- Cogito Fundamentals
- Business Intelligence & Technical Certifications (Preferred).
- Microsoft Certified:
Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL‑300) strongly preferred. - Experience or training aligned with Microsoft Power BI / Microsoft Fabric best practices.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or reporting, preferably in an acute care or healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting BI reports and dashboards.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and relational data models.
- Experience working with enterprise data warehouses and healthcare analytics platforms.
- Healthcare Data, Privacy & Standards:
- Demonstrated understanding of Ontario healthcare privacy requirements (PHIPA), with documented privacy and security training (or ability to complete upon hire).
- Familiarity with Canadian clinical and administrative data standards, including MIS, ICD‑10‑CA, CCI, Canadian Coding Standards (CIHI) is an asset.
- Experience interpreting clinical, quality, case‑mix, utilization, and performance indicators is an asset.
- Excellent analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present insights to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high‑quality results in a fast‑paced environment.
- High attention to detail and strong commitment to data accuracy, integrity, and governance.
- Experience with ITIL, Agile/Scrum, Lean, or project management methodologies is considered an asset.
