Position: Provincial Coordinator for FDG

UNIT PROFILE:

The Forensic Psychiatry Program work towards restoring and maintaining the mental health and well-being of mentally disordered adult offenders while managing risk as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada and ordered by the Ontario Review Board. This multi-disciplinary team includes nursing and allied health professionals working together to provide a wide range of assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services. In this capacity the Forensic Psychiatry Program provides: clinical, risk and medico-legal assessments, inpatient and outpatient treatments and community reintegration services/support.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting operationally to the Forensic Directors Group (FDG) Co-Chairs (Ministry of Health and rotating Forensic hospital), and administratively to the Director and Head of Service of the Forensic Psychiatry Program of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, the Provincial Coordinator for FDG will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the coordination and information exchange of Forensic Services across Ontario.

The Provincial Coordinator for FDG will play a collaborative role in planning, developing and organizing the coordination of services and the development of provincial operational strategies for the FDG.

The Provincial Coordinator for FDG will contribute to the achievement of the FDG vision to provide comprehensive integrated mental health services to forensic patients and specialized psychiatric services for adults to the criminal justice system. This role will manage and ensure a coordinated, consistent, provincial approach to program and service delivery, communication, education, and evaluation plans. This role will consult with a broad range of stakeholder groups, including the Ministry of Health (the Ministry), 10 designated forensic hospitals, the Ontario Review Board (ORB), community health service providers, patients and families, and other community stakeholders.

Important aspects of the role will be to research and develop services in order to improve services and efficiencies within FDG and the sector; and to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiencies of the forensic programs and to provide program development and project management opportunities to enhance program offerings.

Provincial travel will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Mental health, Forensic Psychiatry, Law, Healthcare or related field required.
  • Masters Degree in Mental health, Forensic Psychiatry, Law, Healthcare or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience working within healthcare in the development and coordination of provincial strategy or program planning, mental health experience is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years experience in program development, program evaluation, and project management
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, balancing multiple priorities
  • Strong oral communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills in order to build and maintain relationships
  • Proficient with computers and the Microsoft Office Suite of applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • High comfort level with utilizing a variety of media and web-based platforms
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Demonstrated high level of judgment, tact and diplomacy in interacting with a wide variety of staff members and the public
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment with interruptions and competing priorities
  • Attention to detail, creativity, self-initiation, positive attitude, quality improvement approach
  • Excellent planning, writing, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
