* Ensure the Spiritual Care programs are operated and developed in accordance with the mission and values of The Salvation Army, and with applicable contract(s) and/or agreements.
* Provide and/or arrange for crisis support, spiritual care, and pastoral counseling to individuals and families, respecting their freedom of choice and privacy to select and/or request spiritual support.
* Develop relationships with and deliver spiritual care to clients at HHB Housing and Support Services.
* Coordinate spiritual activities including prayer, devotions, and Bible study for clients and staff. Assist in organizing appointments with a roster of spiritual care providers.
* Work with interdisciplinary team members at HHB Housing and Support Services in problem solving for the benefit of clients.
* Have a knowledge of other faith groups, beliefs and practices, maintain a connection to community faith and spiritual group leaders for referrals and support of client as needed, as well maintaining a current directory of available multi faith referrals.
* Work with other pastoral/spiritual care providers to provide care best fitting with each client’s needs.
* Contact and follow-up with families in the community where appropriate.
* Participate in and/or help facilitate Wrap Around groups in collaboration with our case management teams.
* Maintain knowledge of current best practices by reviewing various spiritual care literatures, consulting with community/denominational experts in spiritual care, and attending professional development activities.
* Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
* Perform other position related duties.
* Degree in Theology, Divinity or related discipline from an accredited university, theological school or seminary.
* Ordination or documentation in good standing in own faith group.
* Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) as delivered by Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).
* Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification.
* Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
* Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including, experience in providing emotional and spiritual support in a social service setting.
* Extensive knowledge of spiritual care and/or pastoral counselling and its application within the emergency shelter environment.
* Thorough knowledge of community resources, various theologies and faith backgrounds.
* Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
* Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of clients, staff, public, and community agencies.
* Ability to prepare and present educational material.
* Ability to deal with others effectively within a team setting and to use judgment and diplomacy. Support and respect decision-making of other interdisciplinary teams, including in situations where priorities differ from chaplaincy goals, while maintaining constructive collaboration and appropriate professional boundaries.
* Self-directed with a demonstrated ability to plan, establish, organize and accomplish objectives, complete assignments and meet deadlines.
* Self-motivated and disciplined.
* Understand ethical behaviour and business practices and ensure that own behaviour is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
* Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques in both one-on-one and group settings.
* Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities.
* Participate in supervision/annual performance review process
* Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
* Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation.
* Proficient computer skills in using all aspects of Microsoft Office.
