Job Description Summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.

Performs clinical diagnostic nuclear medicine testing, including general studies, cardiac studies, and the computer interactions related with these studies.

Job Description

• The Nuclear Technologist administers isotope dosage accurately following established policies and producers; accurately records dosage administered, observes patient during the procedure and reports and unusual occurrences to the appropriate personnel.
• Performs nuclear medicine radiographic studies; determines appropriate isotope required; obtains patient history and reviews patient condition.
• Develops film including evaluating film for technical quality.
• Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis, maintains x-ray and other equipment in efficient operating order, performs preventive maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis and contacts outside service for major malfunctions.
• Insures patient comfort with use of accessories including management of IV pumps and supplies. Insures that patients are aware of your concern for them through proper communication and emphasis on comfort needs.
• Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as required. •

Minimum

Education and Experience:

• Completion of a formal two year allied health AMA approved school or completion of formal nuclear medicine program. Must be registered by the American Society of Radiological Technologists or by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board. CPR Certification required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform job functions while standing and sitting.

Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force.

Examples include:
To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force are needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force are required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.

Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.

Ability to match or discriminate between colors.

Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
