Overview
Fry Family YMCA is hiring a certified Senior Instructor to teach classes on Wednesdays at a nearby nursing home. As a Group Exercise Instructor
, you will instruct group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures to be an integral part of the YMCA's commitment to strengthening bodies, minds, and neighborhoods. Pay ranges from $30-$40 per hour for classes based on qualifications/certifications, and $20 per hour for administrative tasks and training.

- Plans and instructs fitness classes with a personalized approach following YMCA standards and guidelines.
- Designs and implements safe, effective and enjoyable fitness programs tailored to the needs and wants of each member.
- Observes and discusses individual progress with participants; develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness.
- Keeps accurate records of members’ attendance and progress.
- Sets up and takes down class equipment; reports equipment problems.
- Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs; motivates members to commit to long-term participation.
- Ensures safe and effective workouts; responds to and reports accidents, incidents, and equipment problems.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as required; maintains current certifications.
- Supports the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed.
- Basic knowledge of fitness or equivalent work/education experience.
- Certified to teach seniors.
- At least 25 hours of practical experience as a fitness class instructor.
- Ability to lead a fitness class and to motivate and educate members in physical fitness.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations; ability to set up, move, and store equipment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
- Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor.
- Follows all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including monitoring and supervision of children.
- Reports any suspicious behavior and violations of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
- Completes all child abuse prevention training as required.
