This description reflects a position within UT Austin’s Facilities Services, with a focus on fire-life-safety systems and related responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance on fire sprinkler systems; conducts fire sprinkler system inspections. Assists with fire alarm inspections when required. Performs repair, replacement, upgrade and remodel of fire sprinkler systems; assists with new fire sprinkler system commissioning.
  • Provides timely and courteous customer service; maintains communication with supervisors and team members regarding daily work order status; supports shop goals and KPIs.
  • Completes paperwork accurately and promptly; provides equipment information for UT Works updates; maintains up-to-date documentation of all systems.
  • Trains others within the shop and uses leadership skills to advance shop goals.
  • Keeps current on code changes, testing procedures, and product knowledge; reads and interprets drawings and technical manuals; works from written and verbal instructions in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Supports outages, coordinates with contractors and other entities; provides guidance to emergency personnel; conducts follow-up investigations to ensure proper operation of fire safety systems during actual fires.
  • Generates material lists and procures materials; maintains records of materials used and daily time reports; documents details of functions performed.
  • Organizes and cleans work areas to maintain safety and efficiency; participates in the On-Call Program.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years of journey-level experience in installation/repair/maintenance/operation of fire sprinkler systems.
  • NICET Level II certification.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • More than four years of described experience; university setting experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and customer service skills; computer experience; experience with computerized service request systems.
  • Proven ability to work with a team of multi-crafted trades people; NICET Level III or higher in fire sprinkler/fire alarm; leadership program completion.
  • Ability to multi-task; completion of Facilities Services Leader Development program.
Salary Range

$52,255 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions and Physical Tasks
  • Environmental Demands: uniforms/ PPE; may work in all weather conditions; extreme temperatures; around chemical fumes, biohazards, chemicals; electrical and mechanical hazards; standard office conditions.
  • Physical Tasks: repetitive keyboard use; manual dexterity; climbing stairs and ladders; lifting and moving.

    Working Conditions:

    essential during extraordinary situations; may require operating an electronic device for time reporting; may work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels; extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays; may drive university vehicles with required driver rating; participate in on-call program.
Shifts and Availability
  • Multiple shifts available; 40 hours per week; days and hours set with supervisor. Night shift:
    Mon-Fri, 3:30 PM–12:00 AM. Weekend shift:
    Fri-Mon, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM. Overtime possible on any day, including holidays.
