Diesel Technician

Overview

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Arthur, Illinois.

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine the nature of the complaint once assigned a task
• Uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation
• Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Acts as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
• Demonstrates the ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents
• Supports operations with other duties as needed, including Service Island support
• Completion of OEM On-Line diagnostic tool software courses as required by location fleet mix

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational/Technical certification or post-secondary degree preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines
• Routine preventative maintenance, brake and tire work
• Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems, required
• Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred; all other location-specific certifications as required
• Must have minimum 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy- and medium-duty equipment
• PC familiarity (Windows, basic computer use)
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire; pass Ryder drug test; pass DOT physical; pass Ryder road test; pass Ryder background and motor vehicle check for last 3 years

• Hourly pay: $31.00 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 per quarter

  First Shift 5:00 am – 3:30 pm
