Position DetailsPosition Title:
Chemical Technician
Duration: 12+ months with high possibilities of extension
Location:
On-Site, Naperville IL 60563
Pay Rate: $23/hr on W2
Job DescriptionSupport Mining lab testing
Responsibilities- Work closely with scientists to support research projects related to the mining industry, including mineral scale control and mineral flotation
- Perform mineral precipitation tests by calculating and preparing dilutions, setting up and running reactions, and analyzing solutions using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA)
- Prepare and analyze mineral samples by grinding ore, pressing pellets, performing gravimetric analysis, and running X-ray fluorescence (XRF)
- Communicate clearly with scientists to understand tasks for different projects, explain results, and plan work schedule
- Carefully follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for moderately complex but routine tasks and instrumentation
- Make observations while conducting lab work and report potential issues to scientists in a timely manner
- Prioritize safety by understanding lab protocols and proper waste disposal procedures
- Maintain clean and organized lab spaces and equipment, and restock supplies as needed
- Use Excel to tabulate, organize, and plot data and send reports to scientists
- At least one year of experience working in a chemistry or microbiology lab
- Detail-oriented with strong observational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage their own experiment schedule
- Capable of multi-tasking and supporting multiple projects simultaneously
- Eagerness to learn new skills and flexibility to accommodate a dynamic lab environment
- Experience with method development/improving testing or experimental protocols
- Experience working directly with scientists in support of research projects
- Experience with one or more of the following analytical instruments or spectroscopy: XRF, XRD, ICP, IC, AA, IR/FTIR, UV/vis, turbidity, colorimetry, HPLC, GC, MS, NMR
- Experience performing one or more of the following wet chemical methods: titrations, acid digestion, gravimetry, chromatography, or electrochemistry
- This technician will work on multiple projects and with multiple scientists.
- A successful candidate will be comfortable multitasking and exhibit good time management to ensure work is completed by assigned deadlines.
- Communication and collaboration are critical skills.
- The individual must be comfortable asking questions and sharing observations / opinions.
- Associates Degree
- 1-2 years of experience (No recent grads--at least one year of experience in a lab, including Lab Technician or Research Assistant)
- Preferred: BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biology
