Job Summary

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

• Uses standards of medical‑surgical nursing practice to increase the quality of care and quality of life for the patient, family and significant others.
• Establishes effective relationships and serves as an advocate with the patient, family and significant others to facilitate development of the care plan unique to the patient’s needs.
• Uses the nursing process to develop and implement the plan of care, collect assessment data, determine appropriate nursing diagnoses, identify expected patient outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
• Develops assessment and management strategies based on a consideration of the physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational and leisure dimensions of human responses.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the impact of illness and each patient’s status across all dimensions.
• Utilizes leadership skills by coordinating and collaborating with the patient, family, significant others, community and inter‑professional team.
• Utilizes effective communication to participate in collaborative decision‑making that is culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, humane, and resource‑aware.
• Educates patient, family and significant others about measures that promote, maintain and restore health or comfort.
• Fosters a healthy work environment by serving as a mentor and role model for colleagues, students and others.
• Applies evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge in medical‑surgical nursing.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• May perform point‑of‑care testing per policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.

• No experience required.

• Constant use of speech, constant standing, frequent lifting/carrying 0–25 lbs, frequent sitting and keyboard use, frequent vision and hearing, occasional lifting 25–50 lbs, occasional patient handling, occasional bending, kneeling, etc.

Valid RN license in one of the following states with Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP). State‑specific combinations listed:

• Illinois – BLS HCP + Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – IDFPR.
• Missouri – BLS HCP + Registered Nurse (RN) – Missouri Division of Professional Registration or RN issued by Compact State.
• Oklahoma – BLS HCP + RN issued by Compact State or RN – Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
• Wisconsin – BLS HCP + RN issued by Compact State or RN – Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
