Job Details Purpose

The Events and Communications Coordinator supports the Department of Psychology by planning and executing departmental events, managing communications and marketing activities, and maintaining accurate and engaging public facing content. This position plays a key role in promoting departmental initiatives, supporting faculty and staff with event needs, and strengthening the department’s visibility within the College of Liberal Arts and the broader university community.

Responsibilities
  • Event Planning and Execution:
    Oversee the full lifecycle of departmental events from concept to completion including workshops, receptions, meetings, and special programs; manage all logistics such as scheduling, venue coordination, catering, audiovisual support, travel, and day‑of operations; lead monthly departmental speaker series; provide guidance to faculty and staff on event planning best practices; and assign work to student employees who support event logistics and communications.
  • Website and Public Affairs Coordination:
    Manage and update the department website to ensure current and accurate events, news, and program information; collaborate with COLA Public Affairs to share departmental stories and align messaging with college initiatives; and gather and prepare content for web features, announcements, and other public‑facing materials.
  • Communications and Marketing:
    Develop and manage departmental communications by producing a monthly newsletter; creating event‑related and development‑focused materials, including email announcements, promotional content, and digital assets; and ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all departmental platforms.
  • Other Duties as Assigned:
    Support departmental initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications
    • Experience in event planning, communications, marketing, or related administrative work.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with various stakeholders.
    • Experience using standard office software and willingness to learn new tools and platforms.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in higher education or a similarly complex organizational environment.
    • Familiarity with content management systems and basic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express).
    • Experience working with student employees or leading project teams.
    • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, engaging communications for varied audiences.
    Salary Range

    $62,500 + depending on qualifications

    Working Conditions
    • May work around standard office conditions.
    • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
    • Use of manual dexterity.
    • Climbing of stairs.
