JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:

CUSTODIAN

• Previous custodial experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

REPORTS TO:

Head Custodian

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety in a preschool through high school building during the school day. Duties include routine cleaning tasks, responding to emergencies, setting up and tearing down furniture, and ensuring the overall upkeep of the facility.

• Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces.
• Empty trash bins and replace liners.
• Clean and restock bathroom facilities.
• Monitor and address cleaning‑related emergencies.
• Report any maintenance issues or needed repairs.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Collaborate with the custodial team for special cleaning projects.
• Adhere to established cleaning schedules.
• Complete setups and teardowns for events and activities.
• Setup and take down traffic cones and traffic equipment.
• Direct traffic for arrival and dismissal.
• Maintain clean grounds. Pick up trash and debris around the campus.
• Strip, wax, and buff floors.
• Report any unsafe conditions or behaviors of students to the building administration.
• Perform other custodial duties as assigned.

• Ability to work under conditions including hot & cold extremes, high humidity, noise levels, chemical exposure, and around moving equipment.
• Works at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
• Potential operation of building equipment (e.g., floor scrubber).
• Potential exposure to severe weather conditions.

• Ability to lift fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds of force occasionally.
• Ability to lift twenty-five (25) to fifty (50) pounds frequently.
• Ability and willingness to work inside and outside of buildings and facilities and in inclement weather conditions.
• Ability to regularly perform strenuous and considerable physical exertion involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, and bending.
• Ability to work on ladders of varying heights.
• Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting.

• 12 months
• Expected wage range: $16.00-$21.00/hour
• Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and locally competitive.
