Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Observe mechanical devices, equipment and machinery in operation, listening to sounds to diagnose malfunctions and determine the need for adjustment, repair or replacement.
- Study blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications.
- Dismantle machinery or equipment to access and remove defective parts.
- Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections, and inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjust functional parts or devices, as well as control instruments.
- Repair defective parts, install special functional and structural components, and assemble and test operate machinery and equipment to verify correction of malfunctions.
- Set up and operate drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- Repair electrical equipment or replace faulty wiring, switches or relays, as qualified to perform.
- Coordinate with the manager for preventative maintenance, predictive parts replacement and repair, and for outside services when needed.
- Initiate purchase orders for parts, repairs or replacement equipment.
- Monitor paper recycling operations and coordinate outside service with the manager for major repairs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, federal and state rules, regulations, policies and guidelines, and company safety rules in the plant.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- One‑year certificate from college or technical school and 3–5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Math proficiency: add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to anticipate problems and implement preventative measures.
- Capability to develop new techniques for work processes.
- Skill in giving technical direction and leading multiple safety teams.
- Ability to reprioritize tasks based on current business conditions.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to multi‑task.
- Use proper body mechanics while pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling and bending.
- Push/pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Fine‑motor hand and arm movements, manual dexterity and coordination.
- Near visual acuity.
- Operate departmental equipment and navigate each department in the facility.
- Function professionally under stressful circumstances.
