Legal Description This role is remote, but the candidate must be based in Chicago or the surrounding area. We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated attorney to join our Special Investigations Unit (SIU) legal team. The successful candidate will have the ability to evaluate suspicious claims, develop investigative strategies, and coordinate with claims teams, SIU investigators, and outside vendors to defend Liberty Mutual and its customers.

The ideal candidate combines strong litigation skills, investigative experience, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple matters from intake through resolution. SIU experience is preferred but not required. Transferable skills (e.g., prosecutorial experience) are a plus. Responsibilities:
Litigation Management and Execution:
Independently manage all phases of litigation. Conduct comprehensive legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents. Conduct Examinations Under Oath (EUO), depositions, and other discovery proceedings. Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, arbitrations, trials, and mediations to achieve optimal case outcomes. Legal Strategy Development:
Develop, implement, and continuously refine advanced legal strategies for discovery, investigation, and trial preparation. Technology Utilization:
Employ advanced e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software to streamline workflows and reduce costs. Client Advisory and Relationship Management:
Provide clear, well-reasoned legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and Claims Representatives. Build and sustain trusted relationships by understanding client operations and legal challenges. Risk Evaluation and Mitigation:
Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risks associated with cases in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys. Evaluate incoming claims and referrals for potential fraud; determine appropriate investigative and legal responses. Lead and direct investigations:
Partner with and coordinate claims personnel, forensic experts, outside investigators, law enforcement, and vendors (forensics, surveillance, analytics). Training, Mentoring, and Leadership:
Design and conduct training sessions and workshops for Legal, Claims, and related departments. Mentor junior attorneys and legal support staff, offering guidance and direction to elevate team performance. Documentation and Compliance:
Ensure all legal documents are meticulously prepared, accurate, and compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. Adhere strictly to ethical guidelines, licensing requirements, and the Model Rules of Professional Conduct (MRPC). Organizational Improvement and

Innovation: Identify and implement opportunities for process automation and workflow enhancements. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the bar in Illinois and in good standing; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required. Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably within insurance law and related litigation.
