Upon successful completion of the police academy and upon recommendation of the Police Chief, the Police Officer Recruit may be promoted to Police Officer / Probationary (salary range of $8063 - $9801 per month). Upon promotion to Police Officer, employee will receive the same benefits as those provided to sworn employees.

The Police Officer Recruit is a non-sworn, probationary position. You will attend formalized training at a police academy to learn practices, procedures and techniques of law enforcement, crime prevention, community relations, first aid, physical conditioning and handling of weapons. Upon successful completion of a POST Certified Police Academy, you will be appointed as a probationary, sworn Police Officer with an excellent salary, plus benefits including bilingual pay for a qualified second language, certification pays, and educational incentive pay.

Police Officers perform general law enforcement duties and may have the opportunity to specialize in the selected fields of juvenile law; narcotic and dangerous drug enforcement, community relations, traffic enforcement and investigation, criminal investigation, and other equally challenging tasks.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires high school graduation or equivalent; college coursework highly desirable. Police Officer Recruit candidates must be 20 1/2 years of age at time of appointment, with the provision that the candidates will turn 21 years of age within 60 days of their academy graduation date. Valid California Class C Driver's License required. Must pass P.O.S.T Physical Agility and background Pre-Screen Interview prior to Oral Board Interview.

Examination:

Those candidates deemed most qualified will be invited to participate in a written exam Post Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLET-B) and an oral board interview, which may cover communication practices and techniques; ability to understand laws, regulations, police literature and general law enforcement work; and to analyze situations and adopt quick, effective and reasonable reactions. The successful candidate will be required to pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT).
