EKG TECHNICIAN

Position Summary:
The EKG Technician is responsible for performing Electrocardiograms (EKG’s) on adult and pediatric patients, prepares and places Holter Monitors, Event Monitors/Mobile Cardiac Telemetry Monitors, Tilt Table Tests. Technician will also assist with scheduling outpatients for the Cardiopulmonary Care Department.
This is a full time position, 40 hours per week. Salary commensurate with experience.
Position Requirements- Experience preferred, but we will train.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a busy environment.
- Ability to communicate with patients of all age ranges.
- Ability to communicate professionally with staff and providers.
- Basic computer operation, requiring charge entry and task documentation.
- BLS Certification required.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities- Collects data on assigned patients as directed by the physician’s orders, and following the policy and procedures of the Cardiopulmonary Care department.
- Follows guidelines for reporting critical values to nursing or providers.
- Demonstrate competency in selected skills and equipment use.
- Educates patients on what to expect during their test(s).
- Performs accurate documentation in accordance with hospital guidelines.
- Contacting patients to schedule outpatient testing.
- Cleans and maintains equipment
- Communicates all pertinent information including findings, problems, concerns or ideas to Department Director.
- Promotes a constructive/atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to cooperate with and assist fellow team members as well as patients and their families.
- Remains flexible in cooperation with staffing patterns and scheduling needs for provision of care. This includes call scheduling, and performing other duties as assigned.
- Visual acuity skills for a patient assessment, observation necessary for departmental manual and automated duties.
- Auditory acuity skills to verbally communicate with patient and gather data for departmental use.
- Manual dexterity of hands and feet to work long hours and skillfully manage multiple pieces of equipment.
- Physical strength to perform CPR, occasional lifting whenever help is needed, constant walking, twisting and turning and stretching maneuvers to do patient care and departmental duties.
- Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
- Floor to waist - 30 pounds
- 14” to waist - 40 pounds
- Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
- Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
- Carry 30 pounds for 30 feet
- Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
- Pull 40 pounds/force for 15 feet
- Keen mental faculties to perform assessment and decision making skills related to patient care and departmental duties.
- Able to handle stress during long hours associated with acute patient care, emotional demands of patients and families, demands of peers and demands of physicians.
- Skills needed to give and receive information in person and via telephone.
- Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights as identified by the hospital.
- Functions with an awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights as identified by the hospital.
Reports to Director of Cardiopulmonary Care.
