Position: Part-Time Youth Treatment Counselor
Location: Des Moines, IA
As a part time Milieu Treatment Counselor, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Iowa kids and their families. Milieu Treatment Counselors supervise children and youth ages 10-17 years within an inpatient mental health treatment center.

What you will do:- Learn, develop and implement intervention techniques consistent with Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), The Sanctuary Model, and Therapeutic Aggression Control Techniques (TACT2) models.
- Improve each child's mental health and emotional well-being by providing a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Participate as an active member of the treatment team
- Act as an advocate for the residents and families, developing meaningful relationships
Part time Milieu Treatment Counselors work up to 29 hours per week scheduled to meet the needs of the program. Some flexibility in scheduling available, but typical hours are 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm and weekend availability.
Base pay rate is $18.00 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications:- You will need to be at least 21 years of age and possess a High School Diploma, GED, and/or Associates Degree to qualify.
- Attending an undergraduate program plus experience in a related field and some related field experience.
- Proven work experience with children, youth and families, and takes initiative to problem solve.
- Valid driver's license and driving record that meets agency guidelines.
- Ability to collaborate with co-workers and supervisors.
- Initiative to motivate and mentor children and youth.
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social work or a related human service field preferred.
- Exceptional leadership skills.
- Passion for mental health and human services.
Criminal, Abuse Registry, Motor Vehicle Record and Fingerprinting checks completed.
