Location: Golconda
Role:
Registered Nurse (RN) for Developmental Services, providing nursing oversight, clinical care, and program support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. The position supports compliance with DHS Rule 116 and applicable federal and state regulations.
Hours of Work:
Call‑in. 10–15 hours per week, with hours varying based on agency needs. Participation in after‑hours/on‑call rotation is required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Completion of the DHS Nurse Trainer Program within the first year of hire if not already credentialed.
- At least 1 year of professional nursing clinical experience within the last 5 years, preferably in developmental disabilities.
- 1 or more years of experience working with persons with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.
- Must be 21 years of age, hold a valid driver's license and liability insurance, and maintain First Aid & CPR Trainer certification.
- Must complete required registry clearances and criminal fingerprint background checks.
- Available for scheduling evening or weekend hours as needed; travel to all agency sites when appropriate.
- Ability to provide clinical, administrative, and program supervision of DSPs for medication administration.
- Write, implement, and train staff on training needs identified in individual program plans.
- Document consumer progress toward goals, react appropriately in crises, and teach daily living skills, vocational, social habilitation, and survival techniques.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Provide transportation and assist consumers with doctor appointments and medical follow-up.
- Complete nursing assessments, administer injections, and provide other medical care as needed.
- Work directly with pharmacy staff to order medication and ensure availability.
- Participate in after‑hours division nursing on‑call rotation.
- Fundamental knowledge of developmental and intellectual disabilities, Rule 116 program rules, and related regulations.
- Maintain RN licensure in Illinois and obtain RN‑Trainer Certification within the first year of employment.
- Serve as the on‑call nurse for all workshops and residential sites.
- Complete required registry clearances and criminal fingerprint background checks.
- Provide clinical, administrative, and program supervision to Direct Support Persons in residential settings for medication administration.
- Supervise medication administration operations, maintain current and accurate MARs, sign MARs monthly, and check them after completion.
- Submit nursing medication errors as required and quarterly reports to the Safety Committee.
- Inform Developmental Services Division Director of programmatic successes and problems.
- Assist with medical appointments and maintain continuity of care by coordinating with physicians.
- Screen, assess, and provide interventions for consumers exhibiting symptoms of trauma.
- Write, implement and train staff on behavior intervention programs based on each individual’s plan.
- Complete nursing assessments (SAMA and HRIST), administer injections, and coordinate medications and medical needs of consumers.
- Assist in running medical appointments and monitoring medication availability.
- Monitor and document that consumers maintain optimal health.
