Full‑Time • $60,000–$65,000 DOQ
The City of Sandwich is seeking a detail‑oriented Property Maintenance Inspector to support code enforcement, building safety, and community standards. This position investigates property maintenance issues, assists with building inspections, and works directly with residents, contractors, and city departments to ensure safe, well‑maintained neighborhoods.
Responsibilities- Code Enforcement
- Conduct routine inspections to identify property maintenance violations
- Issue Notices of Violation and track compliance
- Monitor properties with active or recurring issues
- Adjudication & Compliance
- Coordinate with the Police Department and City Attorney
- Prepare cases and participate in adjudication court
- Follow up with property owners to achieve full compliance
- Health & Life Safety
- Investigate potential safety hazards
- Coordinate with partner agencies to protect residents and tenants
- Classify unsafe structures and guide owners toward corrective action
- Building Inspections
- Assist the Building Official with inspections of active construction projects
- Assist the Building Official with the coordination of plan reviews, payments, inspections, meetings, etc.
- Investigate unpermitted construction
- Respond to resident complaints and property disputes
- Administrative
- Maintain accurate records and case files
- Use Cloudpermit software to manage inspections and enforcement actions
- Respond to phone and email inquiries
- Assist with daily scheduling and departmental coordination
- Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in municipal government, building inspections, permitting, police/fire, or construction
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to read and interpret municipal and building codes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- General construction knowledge
- Ability to obtain ICC Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector certification within 6 months of employment
- Preferred
- Experience with permitting/inspection software
- Coursework in public service, building codes, fire codes, or related fields
• Mix of fieldwork and office work
• Frequent interaction with residents, contractors, tenants, and city staff
• Requires sitting, standing, driving, light lifting, and occasional ladder/stair climbing
Full-time, non‑exempt
• $60,000–$65,000 DOQ
