Hiring Range: $70,758 – $117,925 (depends on qualifications and responsibilities)

The Applied Materials Division seeks a postdoctoral researcher to perform simulation campaigns and develop AI models for composite materials discovery
. The candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to model composites of arbitrary structures, predict homogenized properties, and integrate AI workflows for design and discovery.
This position includes research, technical writing, and conference presentations
, with opportunities to co-author publications.
Perform finite element simulations of composite materials.
Generate and curate a material property database for composites.
Collaborate with AI experts to develop models and workflows for composite discovery.
Draft technical reports, conference papers, and journal publications.
Present research outcomes at technical conferences.
Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Required QualificationsPh.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field (recent or completed within last 0–5 years).
Experience with
finite element method (FEM).
Proficiency in C++ and Python
.
Skilled in Unix-based operating systems
.
Strong oral and written communication skills.

Must be able to work on-site at Argonne’s Lemont campus

Experience with
MOOSE framework

Experience with
Py Torch for AI/ML applications.
Experience with
high-performance computing (HPC) job scheduling systems
