Engineering Technician – Public Works Department

Salary Grade 4: $78,662 – $106,194

FLSA Status: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime)

Benefits: Full‑Time Non‑Union

About the Role

The Village of Glencoe is seeking a motivated Engineering Technician to support public and private construction projects and resident programs. You’ll also maintain utility and GIS data and assist with infrastructure planning. This role offers a mix of office and field work. This is perfect for someone who enjoys variety, problem‑solving, and meaningful community impact.

Responsibilities at a Glance
  • Review development plans and permits for compliance
  • Support infrastructure and construction projects
  • Assist with routine maintenance programs
  • Conduct code enforcement inspections
  • Maintain utility and GIS data
  • Administer resident programs and rebates
  • Issue public utility and right‑of‑way use permits
  • Assist with traffic and transportation evaluations
  • Provide clear, professional guidance to stakeholders
  • Inspect private development and public construction projects
Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, engineering technology or a closely related field

Experience: One year of related experience preferred; internships and relevant coursework valued

Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Comfort using technology, mobile devices, and GIS tools
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
