Growing Groves is partnering with a globally recognized leader in precision gears to find a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer for their team in Illinois. This is a role for an experienced engineer and troubleshooter who thrives on solving complex manufacturing challenges on the shop floor instead of being at a desk.

Company and Position Summary

Our client is the well-established leader in precision gear manufacturing. They are prized for their culture, as evidenced by their near-zero two-year turnover rate. This is a dream company for someone who feels under-appreciated in their current role. They are seeking an experienced engineer to serve as a critical liaison between their design engineering and production teams. This person will be a key troubleshooter and indirect mentor, helping to optimize production and ensure product conformity.

Reports to:
Engineering Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical resource for the production floor, with approximately 90% of your time spent working with manufacturing operations.
• Investigate and implement corrective actions for in-process product non-conformances.
• Design novel tooling as needed to improve manufacturing processes.
• Provide technical support for machine tool setup and operational verification, with experience on machines like Gleason and Mitsubishi being a strong plus.
• Advise leadership on training needs and conduct training for production personnel.
• Consult on the need for new hob cutters, shaper cutters, and grinding wheels.
• Employ advanced inspection techniques and analyze dimensional changes resulting from special processes, such as nickel plating, through hardening, and precipitation hardening, etc.

Position Requirements

• A strong background in precision-machined component manufacturing
  , with relevant experience often translating to 10+ years.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to assess machine tool capabilities.
• Working knowledge of material characteristics and special processes, including heat treatment.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or other CAD software.
• Experience with Job Boss is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to efficiently communicate technical information and provide mentorship.

Employee Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a salary up to $145,000 based on experience. The company provides an excellent benefits package that includes:

• Medical, Dental, and Vision: The company covers 90% of family medical premiums (PPO plan) and pays 100% of family dental and vision premiums. All benefits are effective the first of the month after your start date.
• Retirement: A 401k plan with a 50% company match on contributions up to 6% of your income.
• Paid Time Off: Paid vacation, personal time, bereavement, and jury duty are all available in your first year. The company also observes 9 paid holidays and 2 bonus holidays.
• Other Benefits: Company-paid life insurance, company-paid short-term disability, and educational assistance are also provided.
