Purpose

This position will coordinate operational training and professional development for the dining unit within University Housing and Dining (UHD). As part of the UHD Human Resources team, this role will support the overall goals for training and professional development for UHD, by focusing on the unique needs and priorities within dining, which includes residential dining halls, cafes, coffee shops and other retail dining venues.

In collaboration with dining leaders, this role will work to create and deliver learning opportunities for staff in alignment with established priorities and vision.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the development of curricula and training programs to achieve specified learning outcomes for staff at all levels, including training for new employees, ongoing training and skill development for existing staff, and training in response to emerging needs. In partnership with appropriate subject matter experts (SMEs), including dining managers, chefs and dietitians, design learning opportunities based in competency theory, deliver training using effective modalities, and create training materials to support operational needs.

    Collaborate with staff tasked with providing training. Provide train-the-trainer guidance to ensure consistency and quality of programs and materials produced by these functional trainers. Collaborate with other UHD Trainers to share resources and expertise when training needs converge across UHD units. Source and evaluate potential third-party training service providers. Facilitate training on various topics, including but not limited to customer service, policy and procedure, and safety.
  • Serve as point person to support the ongoing professional development needs for Dining employees. In partnership with dining leadership and UHD HR, develop solutions to address career development priorities including leadership development, career track advancement, student employee development, and up‑skilling to adapt to changes in the profession or technology. Create structured curricula with competency‑based learning to enable current employees to deepen their knowledge/skills and to grow in their careers.

    Coordinate career development programs in alignment with leadership expectations for participation, progress and completion. Collaborate with other UHD Training team members to identify where cross‑functional development needs converge and to share expertise and maximize resources. Amplify existing opportunities, source and evaluate external resources, and collaborate with appropriate experts to create and deliver professional development content.
  • In collaboration with Dining leadership and Director, Employee Learning and Engagement, determine the needs, priorities and vision for operational training and professional/career development. Establish working relationships with managers and supervisors and other key roles to identify skills or knowledge gaps on their teams and understand desired learning outcomes. In close collaboration with relevant stakeholders, develop and refine a strategy for operational training and ongoing development for Dining staff at all levels, including student employees.

    Keep abreast of changes in the food service/hospitality industry and the fields of employee learning and training content creation.
