Job Description
Nexus Family Healing is hiring substitute teachers for Grand Prairie School at our Onarga, IL location. Nexus‑Onarga Family Healing is located approximately 30 miles south of Kankakee and 45 miles north of Champaign‑Urbana, just a few miles off I‑57 on a historic site in Onarga, IL. Nexus Onarga provides boys ages 10‑20 a structured, homelike environment where they can safely address a variety of unhealthy behaviors and mental health issues as well as childhood trauma.
Job Type: Temporary
Work Schedule & Salary- Schedule:
As needed basis throughout the school year and/or summer opportunities available June‑August. - Hours:
M‑F 7 a‑3:30 p (prescheduled & on‑call hours available). - Salary: $17‑$19 per hour based on credentials & prior teaching experience.
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100+ pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods (2‑4 h).
- Must be able to twist, bend, and stretch as required.
- Must be able to assist in proper restraining of client.
- Role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop/laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.
- Flexible scheduling – on‑call or prescheduled days available year‑round.

The substitute teacher will provide educational instruction through a variety of accepted teaching techniques while employing behavior‑management strategies that ensure the effective implementation of assigned individual students’ IEPs on an as‑needed basis to complement the needs of the full‑time teaching staff.
Primary Responsibilities- Complement scheduling needs of full‑time teaching staff.
- Provide instruction to assigned students in classes of expertise as assigned.
- Provide crisis intervention within the classroom and apply TCI or approved de‑escalation techniques; ask for assistance when warranted and keep other academic and clinical treatment staff apprised of inappropriate behaviors.
- Ensure confidentiality regarding students in compliance with all licensing agencies, company policy, COA, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Attend training sessions as required; understand and support the Nexus treatment philosophy and modalities.
- ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) substitute teaching license.
- Must successfully pass a DCFS criminal background check.
- Previous teaching or substitute teaching experience.
- Special education experience.
