The officer shall be a member of the staff of the college/centre/department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and other obligations normally required of academic staff. He/she should also undertake moral and religious obligations towards colleagues and students as part of his duties as a member of the academic staff. The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM authorities, boards, and committees as required and may serve as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution, statutes, or administrative action of the Rector, Dean or Head.
The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community, advise and guide students regarding character, behavior, and moral conduct, and serve as a moral educator.
- Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
- Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms.
- Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
- Setting and grading assignments, tests, exams and other types of assessment.
- Keeping accurate records of course files every semester.
- Conducting research, writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
- Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
- Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
- Providing support to students and other colleagues.
- Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
- Supervising internship students, if assigned.
- Monitoring student association co‑curricular activities, if assigned.
- Completing any administrative task assigned by Head of Department.
- Attending workshops, events and trainings organised by the college.
- A Ph.D. in Sociology and/or Anthropology.
- At least one year teaching experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s in Sociology and/or Anthropology.
- Published work in recognized communication journals would be advantageous.
- Ability to inspire students with passion.
- Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to work well in a team and prioritize department needs.
- Ability to multi‑task and meet deadlines.
- Industry experience is an added advantage.
- Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
- IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.
- Candidates lacking these qualifications must sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
