Position Summary and Key Responsibilities
McKendree University seeks a lecturer (non-tenure track) in the School of Education. The lecturer will report to the School of Education and will teach a variety of education courses both online and in-person within their expertise. A lecturer plays a vital role in engaging future educators in preparing to become strong teachers. The candidate must have experience teaching in the public K-12 setting for 5 or more years.
The ideal candidate will bring a passion for teaching, a deep understanding of educational methodologies, and a strong background as a K-12 teacher.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging curriculum for methodology courses in various subject areas
- Facilitate meaningful classroom discussions, group activities, and hands-on teaching experiences to develop students' pedagogical skills
- Foster a positive learning environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and effective teaching strategies
- Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and mentorship to aspiring educators to enhance their teaching skills
- Stay current with best practices in K-12 education and adapt instructional methods accordingly
- Supervise students in the field during student teaching
Required Qualifications:
- Master's or doctorate in Education or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of K-12 teaching experience in a public or private school setting
- A strong understanding of various teaching methodologies across different subject areas
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated commitment to responsive teaching practices in education
- Familiarity with educational technology and its integration into the curriculum
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive academic community
- A passion for teaching and a dedication to shaping the next generation of educators
