Job OverviewThe 6th Grade Math Teacher provides high‑quality instruction aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics, fostering a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes problem‑solving, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for learning. The teacher designs and implements rigorous, differentiated lessons that meet the diverse academic and social‑emotional needs of junior high students. Collaboration with colleagues, effective communication with families, and integration of technology and data‑driven instructional strategies are essential for supporting student achievement.
Experience& Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
- Endorsement in Mathematics
- Self‑Contained General Education, Kindergarten–Grade 9 (SCGE) endorsement
- Type 03/09 certification (grades K–8)
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful math teaching experience in classroom settings
- Knowledgeable in standards‑based instruction, assessment practices, and data‑driven decision making
- Familiarity with Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics and current educational improvement initiatives
- Experience working with multiple grade levels in upper elementary and/or junior high education
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates professionalism, organization, and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration with students, colleagues, and parents
- Ability to analyze student data and adapt lessons to meet learning targets
- Experience utilizing data‑driven instructional strategies to improve student outcomes
- Experience integrating STEM concepts and project‑based learning into math curriculum is preferred
- Prior experience with middle school student development and understanding of the unique social‑emotional needs of early adolescents
- Plan, implement, and assess instruction according to school curriculum and state standards
- Use technology and learning management systems to support instruction and student engagement
- Collaborate with other teachers and administrators to develop school wide initiatives
- Maintain an organized, safe, and supportive classroom environment
- Participate in professional development and share best practices with colleagues
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal or District Administration
- Strong knowledge of mathematical content, pedagogy, and assessment practices
- Ability to differentiate instruction and scaffold learning for diverse academic levels

Salary is based on market comparisons as determined by the Superintendent and Board of Education. Twelve‑month work year. Beginning salary: $48,312.
Physical Requirements- While performing job duties, employee may be required to climb ladders, kneel, lift/carry up to 50 lbs., push/pull 50+ lbs., climb stairs, twist, crawl, squat, walk, hear, and stoop/bend.
Work is performed primarily in a classroom setting with occasional supervision in hallways, lunch areas, or outdoor spaces. Requires mobility throughout the school building to support instruction and supervision. May involve exposure to moderate noise levels and frequent student interaction.
