PURPOSE

To provide targeted reading instruction and intervention to students who need additional support in literacy development. The Reading Specialist collaborates with classroom teachers and staff to implement evidence-based strategies that improve reading achievement and foster a love of reading.

QUALIFICATIONS TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Education required;
    Master's degree in Reading or Literacy preferred.
  • Valid state teaching certification with Reading Specialist endorsement.
  • Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred.
GENERAL
  • Expertise in reading instruction, assessment, and intervention strategies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and adjust instruction to meet student needs.

Building Principal

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Pennsylvania Educator Effectiveness System (including observation, student growth measures, and professional responsibilities).

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assess students' reading levels using formal and informal assessments.
  • Develop and implement individualized and small-group reading interventions.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support literacy instruction across the curriculum.
  • Monitor and document student progress; communicate results to parents and staff.
  • Provide professional development and resources to teachers on effective reading strategies.
  • Stay current with research and best practices in literacy education.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and state regulations.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
  • Ability to work in a variety of instructional settings (classroom, small group, one-on-one).
  • Frequent standing, walking, and interaction with students and staff.
