Overview
Governors State University (GSU) is a minority-serving institution and emerging Hispanic-serving institution in the Chicago Southland region seeking to hire 1 full-time, tenure-track position. The rank for the full-time position will be Assistant/Associate. Employment will start for the Fall 2026 semester with hiring continuing until positions are filled. Qualified applicants will have an earned Doctoral Degree in Behavioral Health, Community or Public Health, Rehabilitation, Health Sciences, or a closely related field.
We are seeking candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Community Health Systems and Theories
- Behavioral Health Interventions and Treatment
- Public Health Policy and Administration
- Health Promotion Evaluation and Implementation
- Social Determinants of Health
- Disability and Rehabilitation Science
- Chronic Illness and Disease Management
and/or Chronic Health and Wellness Promotion.

ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be expected to (a) have outstanding teaching skills to teach and update undergraduate courses, (b) have experience working with non-traditional and diverse student populations, (c) assist with the development of academic programs and assessment, and (d) participate in appropriate professional development including serving on committees, maintaining a strong record of scholarship, and cultivating good connections with industry partners.
The position will be located within the Department of Addictions Studies and Behavioral Health, College of Health and Human Services. The program currently offers a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Community Health and a Masters of Health Sciences in Addiction Studies.
The dynamic and committed program faculty serve approximately 200 students in ASBH at the undergraduate and graduate level, including both domestic and international students, as part of our mission to prepare students to succeed in a global society.
