Job Title

Physical Education Teacher, reporting to the Building Principal, exempt FLSA status, 182 work days per year.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is determined by graduate degrees, hours, and level of experience. Current FY 27 Teacher Salary Schedule Step 1 ranges from $46,280 to $54,211 for holders of a Bachelor’s through Doctorate. District 19 recognizes all years of certified full‑time service when placing teachers on the salary schedule. Board‑paid TRS and a benefits package are available.

Job Summary

Maximize the learning experience of Middle School students by developing physical skills, strength, agility, coordination, and teamwork. Promote the importance of exercise for physical and mental well‑being, support fitness programs for athletes and non‑athletes, and motivate students toward healthful habits within a safe and optimal learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Illinois Professional Educators License with Physical Education Teacher grade 6‑8 (Health Education grade 6‑8 endorsement preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Successful prior teaching experience at the middle school level preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Engage every student daily in quality learning opportunities.
  • Create meaningful learning experiences within Physical Education classes that address curriculum knowledge and skills aligned with district goals.
  • Teach knowledge of and develop skills in physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination, agility, exercise, and sports.
  • Develop students’ leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and social skills, providing a safe learning environment and appropriate feedback on progress and goals.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and modify instruction to meet individual needs, including students with special needs.
  • Continuously acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, and research.
  • Organize and maintain accurate records, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Assist in coordinating extra‑curricular activities, student performances, assemblies, and athletic events.
  • Encourage parental involvement and communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct aligns with school and district policies, establishing and maintaining behavior standards.
  • Coordinate with other staff, especially within Physical Education and grade levels, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition instructional aids, supplies, and equipment, and maintain inventory records.
  • Inspect equipment and fields to ensure they are safe and in good working order.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current Physical Education instructional methods and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state education and health education laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of physiology, health and nutrition, biology, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and promoting physical and mental well‑being.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues.
Work Environment

The role requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job involves sitting, walking, and standing for reasonable durations in a hazard‑free environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
