The Department of Sociology, Criminology, & Anthropology at North Central College invites enthusiastic educators for a tenure‑track position in Sociology, to begin in Fall 2026. The contract is for 9.5 months and carries a teaching load of 20 credits per academic year, typically fulfilled through five 4‑credit courses spread over two semesters. Candidates will be considered regardless of field of specialization.
The department promotes experiential and engaged learning.
- Instruct undergraduate courses in sociology, including sociological theory.
- Assess student work and provide detailed feedback to improve content knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Mentor undergraduate students through individual and group interactions, independent study, thesis, and internships.
- Engage students in research where possible.
- Create inclusive spaces in and outside the classroom.
- Develop community‑engaged learning opportunities.
- Develop and review curricula for the sociology major and minor.
- Contribute to program improvement through annual evaluation of outcomes and objectives.
- Prepare departmental reports as requested.
- Attend conferences and workshops; engage with campus resources and professional organizations to develop teaching, mentoring, and research skills; complete required trainings.
- Pursue research activities and disseminate findings through publications and conferences.
- Perform other departmental duties, attend meetings, and serve on committees as required.
- Ph.D. in Sociology by August 2026.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and research.
- Teaching proficiency in social inequality or qualitative methods.
- Research that includes undergraduate students.
- Record of fostering intellectual growth and engagement.
- Experience designing and teaching innovative courses that enhance departmental offerings.
- Assistant Professor: $62,000 – $67,000
- Associate Professor: $72,000 – $78,000
- Professor: $83,000 – $88,000
