Job Overview

Global Power & Construction Inc. (GPC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager to support our Project Management team from our main office in Big Rock, Illinois. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging construction professional who wants broad exposure to commercial project delivery while developing strong technical skills in submittals, scheduling, procurement, and material coordination.

In this role, you will play a critical part in keeping projects organized and moving forward—from pre-construction through closeout—while supporting field operations and maintaining strong communication between vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Prepare, review, submit, and track project submittals to ensure timely approvals.

Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using MS Project or similar scheduling software.

Order utilities and coordinate installations with local service providers.

Verify material and equipment specifications, lead times, availability, and compliance.

Assist with procurement activities, subcontractor coordination, and project buyout processes.

Support RFIs, change orders, shop drawing reviews, and documentation management.

Track project costs, forecasts, and assist with closeout documentation.

Attend internal project meetings and participate in occasional jobsite visits as needed.

Maintain organized project files and ensure accurate, timely flow of information.

Champion safety, quality, and company standards throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

1–3 years of experience in commercial construction (Project Engineer, Assistant PM, or similar role preferred).

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with scheduling software and construction management platforms such as Procore or Bluebeam is a plus.

Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced commercial construction environment.

Detail-oriented with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
