Construction Manager – Flint Hills Resources
Your Job Flint Hills Resources is seeking a Construction Manager to support our Wisconsin Pipeline, Minnesota Pipeline, Wood River Pipeline, and Asphalt facilities. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring jobsite safety, environmental compliance, coordination of contractors, and the mechanical integrity of installed equipment. This is a field-based role that works directly on site with contractor crews to identify and mitigate risks, review work in progress, and ensure successful project execution across safety, schedule, financial, inspection, and quality goals.
The role also includes inspection tasks to assess the integrity of welds, tanks, and piping. This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus. The role requires flexibility for travel, with an expected travel commitment of 75‑90% based on the candidate’s location. The selected candidate can be based in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Illinois, or Iowa.
- Inspect construction and maintenance projects according to FHR Pipeline’s and Terminal’s Technical Guidelines and applicable regulations.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and standards and promote a positive safety culture.
- Adhere to environmental standards and maintain environmental awareness.
- Control cost and schedule of projects in area of responsibility.
- Make responsible decisions in the field for the required work to be accomplished.
- Ensure no leaks, spills, or releases.
- Physical ability to frequently stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, handle, bend, twist, climb, and balance; occasional sitting, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Ability and willingness to utilize Personal Protective Equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with frequent carrying of up to 25 pounds).
- Proficiency in responding to audio alarms and communicating hazardous conditions.
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts, in wet or humid conditions, and in high, precarious places; ability to work around fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- 5+ years of experience in pipeline construction and repair related work.
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness to travel up to 75‑90%, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Willing and able to meet physical requirements.
- 2+ years of experience working on pipeline, terminal repair projects involving pipeline nondestructive testing evaluations, tanks, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience with inspecting, applying industrial coatings & linings, knowledge of excavation standards and requirements.
- Experience with tank construction and inspection code (API 650, 653), pipe fabricating practices and codes (API 1104, B31.4, B31.3) and working knowledge of OSHA confined space requirements.
- Familiarity and working knowledge of 4‑gas air monitoring and benzene monitoring equipment.
- Two‑year Vocational Technical (Mechanical or Welding) or Construction Science Degree.
For this role, we anticipate paying $90,000 - $120,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
