About the job

Well-established, Chicago-only commercial builder is searching for a Lead Superintendent to oversee the new ground-up construction of a 60M multifamily project located in Naperville, IL. The company builds 30M-90M ground-up mixed-use and multifamily projects for private clients. NO affordable housing public clients. Well-staffed support teams. Long-standing subcontractors. All projects are built in the suburbs - NO downtown Chicago. Work directly with the President - NO General Superintendent.

Company will grow 50% in 2026 with 6-8 new projects coming out of the ground.

The Role

The Superintendent will work at the project site with total oversight of all field personnel. Responsible for driving the schedule to a successful completion. Full autonomy of day-to-day operations and decisions.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Act as the primary leader of subcontractors and field forces on a job site
  • Maintain project safety in accordance with the Company’s Safety Policy
  • Develop and update the project schedule, resource allocation, and work processes
  • Prepare two-week look ahead schedules
  • Oversee daily construction activities ensuring work meets quality standards, project timelines, and budgets
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, manage their performance, and ensure they adhere to contract requirements and safety protocols
  • Conduct regular site inspections, identify and address quality issues, and ensure work meets project specifications
  • Identify and resolve issues promptly and effectively to maintain project momentum and project schedule
  • Update project schedules utilizing computerized scheduling software
  • Assist with the buyout and selection of major subcontractors
  • Oversee all aspects of project execution, including constructions schedules, budgets, and quality control
  • Supervise and coordinate all field personnel, subcontractors, and construction activities
  • Implement and enforce strict safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment for all employees and subcontractors
  • Maintain strong communication with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate the work of the subcontractors’ field forces
  • Communicate effectively both externally with owners, designers, and engineers as well as internally with the project team
  • Maintain accurate cost reports
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed, accurate, and timely
  • Adhere to all company policies, standards, and procedures
  • Provide opportunities to help the team develop, learn, and grow
  • Foster positive relationships with both internal and external parties
Qualifications
  • Experience:
  • 7+ years of Project Superintendent experience required
  • Commercial construction experience working for a general contractor (GC) is required
  • Experience leading, developing, and mentoring a team
  • Experience in multifamily, mixed-use, high-rise or larger residential is desired
  • Skills:
  • Ability to read/interpret construction documents
  • Knowledge of construction methods and materials
  • Excellent project organizational skills
  • Impressive leadership skills with the desire to teach, mentor, and develop a team
  • Business acumen and relationship building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication across all levels of the organization
  • Technology:
  • Proficient in basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire
