General Statement of Position
This position will supervise the day camp participants and enforce all rules and safety policies and procedures for children in grades K-7th.
QualificationsApplicants must be at least 16 years old, with prior experience working with children aged 6-12 preferred.
HoursCamp runs Monday through Friday from 8am – 5:30pm. Counselors will work between 25-40 hours per week. Camp will begin on Monday, June 1st and run until Friday, July 31st.
Training will be mandatory from on the following dates:
- Thursday, May 21st
- Friday, May 22nd
- Wednesday, May 27th
- Thursday, May 28th
- Friday, May 29th
- Maintains a positive community image for the District.
- Strives to maintain a positive environment among the District’s organizational divisions.
- Actively supports the Safety Policy and the District’s established loss control program, including training, safety rules, and developing ideas for the prevention of incidents, while providing a safe environment for Park District staff members and patrons.
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert for the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.
- Create new and exciting daily games and activities for children ages 6-12 years
- Create and implement lesson plans
- Prepare materials and plan activities suitable for your age group
- Communicate with parents, camp director and program supervisor
- Be organized
- Maintain camper behavior
- Work independently and with others
- Provide a positive, fun and safe atmosphere
- Provide exceptional customer service
- Be respectful to all park district staff, supervisors, parents, and children
- Working with other departments and staff
- Maintain facility and park cleanliness and organization
- Be knowledgeable of all park district events and programs
- Assisting customers with questions not related to your department
- Physical set up of tables, chairs or other equipment for program
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Ensure participants complete program evaluation

Requirements Position Considerations- Potentially stressful situations associated with children’s programming particularly any behavioral problems that may occur. Must be able to demonstrate good judgment when dealing with staff, participants and parents.
- May be required to stand for extended periods of time through the course of daily activities. Participating with the children in active play, which may require sitting on the floor/ground, running, jumping, swimming, bike riding
- Exposure to the elements such as heat and sun.
- Must demonstrate good judgments, appropriate level of response, and logical thought process in the execution of the duties and responsibilities
