Caterpillar’s Power & Energy Purchasing department is looking for a Category Buyer to provide supply network solutions expertise and use Quality, Cost, Logistics, and Development Management (QCLDM) to support the fast‑growing Electric Power business.
What You Will Do- Serve as the primary contact between Caterpillar and the supply base for global/regional initiatives; lead commercial discussions and negotiations with suppliers.
- Drive performance excellence in Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, and Management (QCLDM) through supplier partnerships.
- Collaborate with Supplier Development Professionals (SDPs) and Product/Facility Procurement teams.
- Develop, manage, and execute global category strategies, including policies, agreements, source catalogs, and special procurement programs.
- Promote the highest level of professionalism and business ethics.
- Data Analytics – extensive experience with techniques for inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data.
- Effective Communications – proven ability to transmit and interpret ideas and information accurately.
- Interpersonal Relationships – ability to work constructively with a variety of individuals and groups.
- Negotiating – strong knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques.
- Supplier Relationship Management – ability to address critical issues and maintain engaged relationships with suppliers.
- Strategic Sourcing – ability to analyze, improve, and re‑evaluate the procurement process continuously.
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Strong knowledge of product, NPI, facility, manufacturing, supply chain, and category strategies.
- Experience in purchasing, supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, or engineering.
- Professional certification in purchasing and/or inventory management preferred (e.g., CPM, CPIM, CIRM).
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Understanding of QCLDM.
- Position can be located in either Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL.
- Domestic relocation is available.
- Visa sponsorship is not available.
- Travel expected around 25% both domestic and international.
