Job Description & How to Apply Below

German is one of the four modern foreign languages taught at CLSG and is an option in Year 7, where students choose two languages:
French, German, Spanish or Chinese. German numbers are currently healthy at KS3 (around 40) and KS4 (around 15) and we are looking to increase uptake further. It is also taught for KS5 (Year 12 and 13), where we prepare our A-level linguists to achieve their best potential in preparation for the A-level assessments.

CLSG students have the opportunity to work alongside a German native Language assistant supporting them from as early as Year 7 to Year 13. We use Stimmt! books 1-3 for Years 7-9, and the Edexcel IGCSE Stimmt textbook for Years 10-11. For Edexcel A-level, a wide variety of books are used to encourage extra reading and a flexible approach. We currently teach the film Das Leben der Anderen in Year 12 and Drrenmatts Der Besuch der alten Dame in Year 13.

We provide enrichment lessons for both Year 12 and 13 students and those preparing for Oxbridge. Lessons last for 35 minutes and are taught in the target language using the communicative approach. We place a great emphasis on promoting students motivation and enjoyment to reach the highest possible standards. The faculty also believes that a strong grammatical foundation is essential to good communicative competence.

The languages faculty is very well resourced with a wide variety of authentic and course related materials, including printed and digital resources. All students use iPads in class and teachers and students use digital platforms such as One Note.

We are looking for an inspiring, well-qualified and highly committed professional who possesses excellent German language and literary skills to teach German from KS3 to A-level. The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the ability to convey their passion across all year groups. All staff in the department should have great subject knowledge and a strong interest in the German speaking world, including literature, film, history and current affairs.

We are also looking for someone who is keen to collaborate and work constructively as part of an enthusiastic team, as well as go on trips. The role is offered on a full-time or part time (0.9 FTE) basis. The start date is September 2026.
