POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Camp Nurse is responsible for monitoring the health and safety of camp staff and girls ages 5-17. This position ensures the medical and safety needs of all campers and staff are addressed within the parameters of the Health Orders provided by the camp physician. The Camp Nurse will communicate with camper guardians/caregivers, Camp Director and appropriate camp staff regarding camper care, medication management and any other issues that occur during the campers’ stay.
This position is also accountable for the general safety and empowering the personal growth and skill development of the participants in our camp program. The Camp Nurse exhibits enthusiasm and patience while exemplifying the Girl Scout core values of honesty, caring, courage, and character.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- Visits camp 1x/week as needed.
- Works with Health Assistant to manage medication and health needs of campers and staff.
- Works with camp Health Care Supervisor to ensure that all weekly duties are completed, including documentation, refilling first aid kits, cleaning rooms, laundry, etc.
- Works to create a positive group culture through team-building and problem-solving activities.
- Models personal responsibilities such as conflict management, positive relationships, following rules, and respecting camp property.
- Follows and implements appropriate behavior management procedures when interacting with all campers.
- Completes and submits all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner.
- Exhibits punctuality and communication in time management, including daily and weekly breaks.
- Respects and follows the “Camp is for the camper” philosophy by attending to camper and camp needs first.
- Represents camp appropriately in the community and with parents by maintaining personal hygiene, following camp dress code, and communicating respectfully with campers, parents and other adults.
- Reports concerns and incidents to Camp Director.
- Practices the Girl Scout Promise and Law with an inclusive attitude and a willingness to problem-solve.
- Follows all procedures and regulations according to the GSEWNI Council, GSUSA, and state and federal guidelines and laws and the American Camp Association.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
