Heavy Equipment Operator – Heyburn,  – Sundt Construction

Job Description

Must have at least 3 years' experience operating a dozer with GPS, an 80k+ excavator (CAT 336 size and up), and a loader. Heavy civil/road & bridge construction experience is highly preferred. Must be available for overtime as needed and must pass pre‑employment drug testing. Pay is $24–$30 per hour DOE. Work schedule is 40–60+ hours per week; anticipated project duration is approximately 7 months.

Job Summary

The operator safely operates a variety of heavy equipment, including backhoes, excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, haul trucks, dump trucks, and water trucks. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance and pre‑shift walk‑arounds to ensure equipment safety.

  • Provide feedback to ensure materials, tools, equipment, and information are available for work.

  • Maintain high proficiency in related equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Inspect subordinates’ work, ensure accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications, explain deficiencies, and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Eliminate waste such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage, and time.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Must have a minimum of three years (Level I), four years (Level II), five years (Level III), or six or more years of experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry, with an in-depth understanding of heavy equipment operation.
  • Must be able to read and understand drawings, specifications, safety and quality standards, and effectively utilize all trade tools and equipment relevant to the work.
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Frequently use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects.
  • Comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, or bend.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment, including steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, and vest.
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
