Summary
The Valley County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting for a Patrol Deputy to perform general law enforcement duties in the protection of the life and property of citizens and visitors to the county. We are looking for someone who can build positive relationships within the community while enforcing state and local laws. This is a full-time position with full employee benefits.
TypicalDuties & Responsibilities
Patrol Deputies promote public safety through effective community policing practices, patrolling county roads to suppress criminal activity and to help prevent traffic accidents, responding to calls from people in need of help, conducting criminal investigations and testifying in court, participating in county-wide emergency operations, and representing the Sheriff’s Office as positive role models within the county. You can expect to work many different shifts, including day, night, or weekend shifts, and you will be exposed to outdoor temperatures and weather extremes such as beautiful summers and snowy winters.
As with any public-facing position, you will be exposed to the public and to a variety of associated behaviors and experiences. And of course, you would need to be comfortable with the use of firearms and be physically able to restrain someone should the need arise.

The starting pay for this position is typically the entry amount listed on this job announcement. However, the successful candidate may be offered a higher starting wage if they have previous training and work experience directly related to this position.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or an equivalent, be able to deal with all types of behaviors and personalities in a fair and professional manner, be physically fit, and be willing and able to carry and use a firearm. As this is a law enforcement position, applicants will be required to undergo a stringent background screening including an in-depth review of their criminal and employment histories, as well as complete and pass a physical and a drug test.
Patrol Deputies are law enforcement officers in a public safety role, and as such, certification through the Idaho Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Academy will be required within one year of hire. Anyone selected for this position will be enrolled and sent to the POST academy in Meridian to receive specialized law enforcement and public safety training once they have completed their initial on-the-job training.
