RequirementsBills insurance companies for Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Regence and Commercial insurances. Pursue collection of all claims till payment is made by insurance companies. Performs other work associated with the billing process. Responsible for timely billing functions for all insurances including electronic claims filing, secondary filing and corrected claims. Responsible for denial tracking and reporting.
Duties / Responsibilities- Works follow-up WQ’s daily, does any re-billing, work the mail, and work WQ’s for denials and sends secondary/tertiary insurance bills.
- Maintains good working relationships with insurance carriers.
- Returns phone messages and communications via email or fax promptly and efficiently.
- Works all credit balance accounts through the WQ for assigned alphabet portion and processes refunds due insurance companies and submits them for approval.
- Works all aging accounts through the WQs for assigned alphabet portion.
- Secures needed medical documentation required or requested by insurances.
- Processes rejections/denials by both making accounts private pay and referring to outsourcing company or correct any billing error and resubmit claims to appropriate insurance carriers.
- Prepares and submits hospital and hospital based claims to insurance carriers either electronically or by paper copy for Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Regence and Commercial insurances.
- Follows-up with insurance carriers on unpaid claims till claims are paid or only self-pay balance remains.
- Works with physician or medical record staff to ensure that correct diagnosis/procedures are reported to insurance carriers.
- Monitors claims for missing information, authorization/control numbers.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information.
- Complete work within authorized time to assure compliance with departmental standards.
- Keep updated on all billing requirements and changes for all insurance types.
- Responsible for pursuing information regarding third party liability insurance and filing all claims. Follow up on accounts until paid in full for Primary and Secondary payer’s responsibility is satisfied.
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
