Job Summary
Cardiac Sonographer PRN – St. Mary's Health & Clearwater Valley Health – Orofino,
Responsibilities- Perform cardiac ultrasound examinations and all related ultrasound duties.
- Provide care to patients for diagnosis and treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders, working with patients of all ages.
- Maintain a high quality of patient care; position and handle patients with professional ethics, care, tact, courtesy, patience and safety.
- Greet and introduce oneself to patients and describe the nature and time requirements of requested exams.
- Keep room and work area neat and orderly; maintain and rotate supplies/inventory; keep work area stocked.
- Organize, plan and direct activities relating to patients and procedures for the designated area/room.
- Identify problems and communicate to the imaging director; offer solutions when appropriate.
- Check orders for history/special instructions; furnish cardiologist or treating physician with the patient’s history on worksheet or assessment sheet; complete all paperwork where applicable.
- Maintain good working relationships with radiologists; consult and communicate with radiologists regarding examinations as necessary.
- Perform specific duties requested by Radiology Managers.
- Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings, staff in-service education and training programs.
- Assume responsibility for proper and efficient operation of all echo equipment used; report malfunctions and need for adjustments or repairs to the service engineer.
- Assist in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs and carts onto tables/gurneys to complete exams.
- Travel to other sites/locations to perform tests as scheduled.
- Maintain continuing education credits, accreditations and certifications current at all times.
- Follow hospital exposure control plans/blood-borne and airborne pathogens.
- Maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times; follow HIPAA regulations and policies.
- Ensure regular and predictable attendance as an essential job function.
- Communicate with patients, families and co-workers in person, in writing and on telephone.
- Graduate of an accredited echocardiography (non‑invasive cardiovascular) program.
- 3–5 years of previous experience preferred.
- Knowledge of PACS preferred.
